Bernie Steadman is a recently–retired teacher who has emerged from a long and rewarding career teaching English Language and Literature to students aged 11 to 18 in Manchester and Devon.
She qualified with a degree in Drama and English and followed it with a Masters in Educational Management, working her way up to Vice Principal in charge of Pastoral Care and Child Protection before taking early retirement in 2011. She feels that her pastoral work gives her a fresh insight into the challenges facing young people and aims to incorporate those experiences into her writing.
When not bashing away at a keyboard, Bernie likes to walk along the coast or cycle in the Devon Countryside with husband Stuart. She’s an active member of two choirs and relishes the adrenaline rush of live performances. Rumour has it that she has taken up knitting and has forced several friends to be grateful for hand-knitted garments of unpredictable quality.
The freedom to write whatever and whenever she likes continues to inspire Bernie. In the last year she has completed her debut crime novel ‘Death and Deception’ which is published by Bloodhound Books. She is currently working on a sequel to ‘Death and Deception’ and has completed the first draft of ‘By Fire and By Water’, a YA fantasy.
